Bewafa Sanam is a Hindi-language musical thriller film that revolves around the themes of love, betrayal, revenge and sacrifice. The movie is loosely based on the life and story of Janab Ataullah Khan, a poet and singer who was famous for his ghazals (a form of Urdu poetry).
The Plot of Bewafa Sanam Movie
The movie follows the story of Sundar (Krishan Kumar), a successful and popular cricketer who falls in love with Sheetal (Shilpa Shirodkar), a college student. However, their happiness is short-lived as Sundar faces many enemies who are jealous of his fame and fortune.
One of them is Gautam (Sagar), a fellow cricketer who conspires with Sheetal to ruin Sundar's life. He kidnaps Sheetal's mother (Aruna Irani) and blackmails Sheetal to betray Sundar. He sends goons after Sundar who beats them up and gets arrested. In prison, Sundar learns that Sheetal has married Gautam and he escapes to crash their wedding. He shoots Sheetal dead in front of everyone and gets sentenced to death for his crime.
Later, a journalist (Kiran Kumar) tries to help Sundar and finds out the truth behind Gautam's scheme. He also discovers that Sheetal had a look-alike sister named Mamta (Shilpa Shirodkar in a dual role) who was the daughter of the jailor (Kiran Kumar). Mamta tries to prove Sundar's innocence and falls in love with him. However, it is too late as Sundar realizes that Sheetal loved him too and was forced by Gautam to betray him. He requests the authorities to let him visit Sheetal's grave one last time before he is hanged. He kisses the grave and dies by her side.

Bewafa Sanam movie was directed and produced by Gulshan Kumar, the founder of T-Series, a music label and film production company. He was also the story writer of the movie. The screenplay was written by Sachin Bhowmick, a veteran writer who worked on many Bollywood films. The dialogues were written by Madan Joshi, a lyricist and screenwriter. The cinematography was done by Thomas A. Xavier, a Malayalam film director and cameraman. The editing was done by Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali, a famous duo of film editors.
